As the daughter of Ike W. Culp, Lieutenant Governor of Texas, Ms. Hobby was exposed to leadership in government as a child which helped shape her career in government.
In 1919, when Hobby was 14, her dad was elected a state legislator. She traveled with with him to Austin for legislative sessions. During each session, young Mrs. Hobby became a serious, interested observer.
